Beaneath The Skin

” For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.” Psalm 139:13

Today, my vision got a little clearer, and I had a lot put into perspective. For years, my husband has been telling me the damaging effects of being in the beauty industry. Yes, he supports me in all that I do, but never encouraged being put in a position of being constantly compared or told that you weren’t quite good enough. I ignored it initially, after all, I was just having fun with it? I never took it seriously enough to let those things get to me.. until it started happening.

We were never made to live this way.. in constant comparison to each other, but unfortunately, that is what social media and media in general has done to us! Even if we don’t admit that we fall into this category, subconsciously, we think it, and we feel it to a degree. Growing up, especially in middle school, I was constantly picked on for my appearance. The classic “ginger” jokes if you will. I carried some of that pain with me all through high school and it was damaging to my relationships and all in all was slowly destroying my opinion of myself. That should NEVER happen.

God never created us to be so self centered. Who are we to think we deserve certain titles or positions? I was humbled by this realization today. I always had my husbands wise words in the back of my mind, questioning if modeling was right for me, but kept pushing forward , for what? What fulfillment other than self-centeredness, and ego, could modeling possibly give to me? But it isn’t and shouldn’t be about ” me, me ,me “. That’s the problem. Recently, I have been given opportunities that I thought were going to be somewhat of a “stepping stone”, but God decided to intervene. He said, no. Initially, my ego took it very hard, and I made a few phone calls to vent.  I didn’t want to believe that after all my efforts that it wasn’t going to work out for me. At least, not the way I intended.

Then, amazingly, something happened, and I had this strong urge and motivation to share. I decided that I am fed up with being judged, compared and told , “yeah , you’re good, but THIS girl.” No, you don’t get to sum up my worth, and try to discourage me. I am feeling more at peace with acceptance of the fact that I am free of that judgment and nobodies opinion of me is even held to any sort of importance. I am who I am, and I was created for a purpose, not for self, but for others. All this time, instead of taking it personally, I should’ve been thanking God. We pray all the time for God to lead and direct us, and here I have been pouting and getting mad it wasn’t working out for me. Well, maybe that’s because God doesn’t want me to self serve, but to serve others.

No, I don’t know where to begin, but I know that I am going to continue to let The Spirit speak, and direct me , and I intend on fully listening and obeying this time. Thank you God for this realization.

“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” Psalm 139:14

Let God Be Good to You

Isn’t this a wonderful verse? It tells you God is waiting to be good to you. He’s actually looking and longing for an opportunity to show His goodness. He is a God of justice and He desires to make every wrong thing right. But He can only be good to those who are waiting for Him to be good to them, those who believe His promises.
Are you available? Don’t fall into Satan’s trap of being negative. Don’t believe when he tells you your past is really not past and your future is bleak. Choose to believe God and get ready to receive the wonderful gifts He is waiting to give to you. Go to sleep meditating on this thought: Something good is going to happen to me!

Gods Promises

Recently I have been reading 4+ devotionals in the morning because I could definitely use the extra encouragement; and then I finally stumbled upon one that really hit the spot.

57. I’ll always bring you through impossible situations. Psalm 34:18-19
58. Forgiveness of your sins is immediate if you believe in Jesus. Acts 10:43
59. Imagine! I WANT to give you your biggest dreams when you’re trusting in Me. Psalm 37:4-5
60. Because you believed in Jesus, your account with Me is settled. Go in peace! Romans 5:1
Which promise stands out to YOU today? Is there a promise you want more faith to believe? Stop and talk to God now. Memorize ALL the promises. MemLok.com

How encouraging is it, to read these words and know that He has promised these things to those who love Him and obey Him? I know that everyday I fall short, but He also says we are immediately forgiven If we believe in Him. I don’t know what could possibly be more comforting than that.

Feeling Abandoned
I have been abandoned before. My father left my mother when I was just a baby. Even though my mother loved me, I spent a great part of my life with a painful question: Why didn’t my father love me enough to stay?
So I can relate to Psalm 88 in which Heman the Ezrahite wrote about feeling as if he was abandoned. He felt despondent, as if there was no hope in his situation. He felt far from friends and family to care for him.
As you read the Psalm, you can feel his raw pain through the words he has chosen to use to describe his feelings. His word choice largely included those associated with death: grave, pit, slain, depths.
Psalm 88:8-9 summarizes the height of his despair: “You have put away my acquaintances far from me; you have made me an abomination to them; I am shut up, and I cannot get out; My eye wastes away because of affliction.”
In this Psalm, the writer expresses his belief that God was responsible for his troubles. He felt as if God was nowhere to be found in his troubles and that God was angry with him.
Now the writer’s words were true in that they truly expressed how he felt at the time. But were the thoughts behind those feelings true according God’s word? No, they were not.
Even though the writer felt like God had abandoned him, God’s own word in Deuteronomy 31:6 says that He will never leave us nor forsake us. So even though the writer couldn’t “feel” God with him, yet God was there because He promised He would be.
So if you are feeling abandoned, you can acknowledge that you feel that way, but give yourself a reality check. God’s word promises His eternal presence. Feelings change all the time which is why they can’t be trusted, especially if they are based upon lying thoughts.
You are not alone. You are not abandoned. Some people may leave you but God never will. Comfort yourself by reminding yourself of the truth. God is with you, even during times of affliction. If God is for you then who or what can be against you?

Be Led By The Spirit

Willpower: The Fair-weather Friend
Willpower sure sounds like a great thing. We are led to believe that we have enough of it to fight off every temptation that comes our way. And sometimes it works. But let me tell you a little secret about willpower. Willpower is your best friend when things go well, but it’s the first friend to check out when you get weary. I have found that if I really don’t want to do something, my mind gives me plenty of reasons why I don’t have to. My emotions even join in, saying, “I agree because I don’t feel like doing it anyway.”
Our soul (mind, will, emotions) would love to run our lives, but the Bible says we are to be led by God’s Spirit. We are never instructed to be willpower-led, we are told to be Spirit-led. Willpower and discipline are important and vitally necessary to a successful life, but willpower alone won’t be enough. Determination gets you started and keeps you going for awhile, but it is never enough to bring you across the finish line. Zechariah 4:6 (NKJV) says, “Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit, says the Lord of hosts.”
What happens if, instead of turning first to willpower in your time of need, you turn to God instead? God releases His power into your willpower and energizes it to bring you across the finish line. Willpower does not get the credit for our success, God does. Jesus said in John 15:5 (AMP), “Apart from Me [cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing.” This is one of the most important and most difficult lessons we must learn if we want to enjoy the life Jesus died to give us.

Yoga is always a good idea outside

Here are just some simple inversions that I have recently started to get the hang of. With yoga, balance is SO important, and I can say that today i shocked myself at how much better i’ve gotten at holding these poses and transitioning into others. Keep in mind that it does take awhile sometimes to do these inversions. Don’t be discouraged if you cannot get there quite yet. It took me awhile and lots of practice. The reason being, is because in yoga, you don’t want to just throw yourself up into a headstand/ handstand, because it’s all about building strength and balance. This is why sometimes it takes others a little longer to get it. It definitely did for me. I have also found that when the sun is bright and shining, and I do yoga outside, I am a lot braver and confident in what I am doing/ capable of doing. The sunshine that God blesses us with just fills me with joy, and therefore when it is nice out, I always take my yoga mat outside. I strongly recommend it! So get outside and go play! 🙂

Jesus Calling

Try to view each day as an adventure, carefully planned out by your Guide. Instead of staring into the day that is ahead of you, attempting to program it according to your will, be attentive to Me and to all I have prepared for you. Thank Me for this day of life, recognizing that it is a precious, unrepeatable gift. Trust that I am with you each moment, whether you sense My Presence or not. A thankful, trusting attitude helps you to see events in your life from My perspective.

A life lived close to Me will never be dull or predictable. Expect each day to contain surprises! Resist your tendency to search for the easiest route through the day. Be willing to follow wherever I lead. No matter how steep or treacherous the path before you, the safest place to be is by My side.

This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm118:24

To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps. 1 Peter 2:21
